The Feldenkrais®-Method – A Brief Introduction and Its Benefits
The Feldenkrais®-Method is a holistic approach to learning that uses movement as a pathway to greater awareness, development, health, and well-being. It was developed by physicist and movement researcher Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais and is based on the understanding that we have the capacity to learn, adapt, and change throughout our lives.
As we move through life, we develop habits and patterns – in the way we hold ourselves, move, think, and act. Many of these patterns serve us well, while others may contribute to tension, discomfort, limitations, or a sense of unnecessary effort. The Feldenkrais®-Method invites us to become aware of these habitual patterns and to explore new, often surprisingly simple possibilities.
The focus is not on training, correcting, or striving for a particular result, but on learning. Through gentle, mindful movements, the nervous system is given the opportunity to notice differences and explore new movement options. Over time, this can allow movement to become easier, more efficient, and more comfortable.
Who Can Benefit from the Feldenkrais®-Method?
The Feldenkrais®-Method is suitable for people of all ages and abilities, regardless of physical fitness or previous experience. It can be supportive for those experiencing physical discomfort or limitations, as well as for anyone seeking personal development, greater well-being, or a more conscious relationship with themselves.
Feldenkrais® creates a space where learning can take place without pressure to perform. With curiosity, attention, and gentle movement, even small explorations can open the door to significant change.
Not through greater effort, but through greater awareness.
